Mighty Aphrodite - Directed & Written by Woody Allen (1995)
I’ve been avoiding a lot of Allen’s later films, since they majorly have a poor reputation. Also, I really love the first half of his career and didn’t want to ruin my impression of the man. This film rose above any bad rap his films of the last two decades might have; it was classic Allen with a mix of Greek mythology. Mira Sorvino plays her part perfectly, and stands out as the funniest part of the film. A hooker, a Greek chorus, AND Helena Bonham Carter…this film is a hidden gem of 90s cinema.
